GRANDE CUISINE ACADEMY TAKES OVER “TASTE OF TUESDAY” AT MILTON KEYNES COLLEGE

The Grande Cuisine Academy recently took over one of the regular Taste of Tuesday evenings held at the Brasserie MK, Milton Keynes College. The event showcased the culinary prowess of Level Two and Level Three catering students, who meticulously prepared a delicious traditional French Brasserie-style menu under the watchful eye of Academy Ambassador and Vice-President of the Craft Guild of Chefs, Steve Munkley.

The carefully crafted menu featured a superb array of French dishes, including Oeuf Poché sur une Macedoine de Légumes et Lardons Sautés, Magret de Canard Roti aux Cèpes et Gratin Dauphinois, and Tarte aux Pomme avec Crème Anglaise. The dishes not only demonstrated the students' culinary skills but also highlighted their dedication to mastering the art of French cuisine.

Steve Munkley, impressed by the students' enthusiasm and talent, expressed his delight at working with them, saying, "It was truly a pleasure to collaborate with the aspiring chefs at Milton Keynes College. Both their commitment to learning, and their passion for cooking, were evident throughout the day, from prep right through to service. I should also mention their counterparts who worked front of house to deliver the dishes to the customers, they also did a fantastic job. It was a real privilege for me to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with these talented young individuals." Munkley also extended his gratitude to MK College lecturers Richie Carter, Lucy Shamaro, and Ciaran Doyle for their invaluable support during the course of the evening.

Head of School, Sharon Leicester-Finch, reflected on the success of the evening, emphasising the unique learning experience it provided for the students. "Having the opportunity to prepare, cook, and serve food for paying customers is a crucial part of the students’ culinary education. The ‘Taste of Tuesday’ events not only allow them to showcase their skills but also provide them with real-world experience. We are grateful to Steve Munkley, and the Grande Cuisine Academy for their involvement, which served as a tremendous inspiration for our budding chefs.

“This collaboration between the Grande Cuisine Academy and Milton Keynes College's aspiring chefs celebrated the rich traditions of French cuisine and it is initiatives such as this that play a vital part in laying the foundation for future culinary excellence among our students. The evening was a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and hands-on experience in shaping the next generation of hospitality professionals,” concluded Leicester-Finch.
